Range trading and mean reversion
What it is
When a market moves sideways, sell near the top of the range and buy near the bottom, expecting price to return to the middle.
The rules
SetupAt least two touches at both the top and the bottom, and no strong trend on the higher timeframe.EntryNear the edge, often confirmed by an oscillator (RSI above 70 at the top, below 30 at the bottom).StopOutside the range by a buffer.TargetThe middle of the range, or the opposite edge.
When it fails
When the range breaks, often with a strong move against the trade. Ranges always end eventually.
Risk profile
High win rate, smaller wins: one unmanaged breakout can erase many wins.
Who it suits
Traders who prefer frequent, smaller targets and strict stops.
